WL-SIT TESOL Certificate Course Alumnus
"I walked into the first day of the SIT TESOL certification course with more than a degree of skepticism. But more than one year after having completed the course, I not only feel like I made a very good decision by enrolling in the course but also thankful to have found a field that challenges me to think creatively.
"When I met other language teachers at my first job abroad, I was surprised that many of them had few positive things to say about their certification course. It was then that I fully realized the exceptional level of the SIT program, which I found to be logically arranged and dynamically facilitated as opposed to taught. That is to say, the teacher trainers followed the same inductive, reflective, and student-centered model in helping us learn about TESOL that they were asking us to embrace in our future classrooms.
"Through this direct exposure to the methodology, we were able to link the learning and teaching processes for ourselves. This reinforced the backbone of the educational structure as we literally saw it work before our eyes. The practice teaching element to the course then helped us directly apply this knowledge to a real language classroom.
"Coming out of the program, I felt that I had a strong fundamental understanding of what would be required of me as a teacher of English. And like any good educational experience, the course helped me realize what I didn’t know. Each teacher is an individual and teaching is also an art; what works for one teacher in the classroom may not work for another. However, the SIT program gave me the confidence not to shy away from the unknown and to realize that even if activities do not go exactly as planned, there is always something to learn."
