For more than 75 years, World Learning has built a diverse and
complimentary set of offerings and services that transform lives and strengthen the capacity of communities and institutions
to address pressing global needs. Through its four core program areas bridging learning and practice, international
education and international development, World Learning awakens people to global issues and prepares individuals,
communities, and institutions worldwide to be effective leaders of change.
World Learning's School for International Training (SIT) was founded more than 40 years ago as a training center for
early Peace Corps volunteers, and prepares students from more than 30 countries to become informed and effective leaders,
professionals, and global citizens. Graduates of SIT's degree programs go on to start nonprofit organizations, teach
languages, become government and civic leaders, and achieve success in the private sector.
SIT is well-known nationally and internationally for its work in language teacher education and has been training
learner-oriented, culturally sensitive and humanistic language teachers for over 30 years through its
Master of Arts in
Teaching Program. It has prepared more than 2,000 active professionals working in the field today who are
making significant contributions as classroom teachers, administrators and consultants throughout the U.S.
and in over more than countries around the world.
Among the earliest proponents of experiential education, SIT's Master of Arts in Teaching program provides
teachers with the knowledge to achieve excellence in their classroom practice and to be advocates for
intercultural understanding. These same elements provide the basis for the four-week SIT TESOL Certificate
for English Language Teachers Course.
