Homestay Details

The Homestay Program offers its English language students the unique opportunity to live with a "real New Yorker." It is an outstanding opportunity for maximum speaking practice and a basic orientation to life in New York City as you take English courses at Rennert International.

Inside Manhattan. Double rooms not available.
Arrival & Departure
  • Students arrive the Sunday before the start date and depart on the Saturday after the last day of class.
  • It is the student's responsibility to email or call their host to coordinate the arrival time and make sure their host will be home to greet them. Rennert can forward flight details to any host to assist the student.
  • We recommend that students also call the host 72 hours in advance of their departure to confirm the arrival time.
  • Hosts are not expected to meet students at the airport.
Location
  • Safe residential areas within Manhattan.
Travel time
  • 25-45 minutes to the school via subway, bus or walking.
  • Public transportation is a short walk from the homestay.
Meals
  • Bed & Breakfast only - Students may be expected to prepare their own meals, in which case the food will be provided by the host.
  • Students may have access to the kitchen with the permission of the host.
Family type
  • Non-traditional family types such as single working professionals, retirees or young professional roommates.
Room types
  • Students stay in single rooms.
Bathroom
  • Bathroom facilities are usually shared with the host.
Sheets & towels
  • Included. Will be changed regularly or when requested.
  • In some cases, students may be asked to change their own sheets or towels, in which case they are provided by host.
Type of housing
  • Apartment buildings
Laundry & Cleaning
  • Not included for personal clothing. Students are expected to wash their own clothing.
  • Information about Laundromats or washing facilities to be provided by hosts.
  • Students are responsible for keeping their rooms tidy.
Telephone
  • Students may receive telephone calls from abroad, but family and friends must consider international time differences when calling.
  • Students must always ask the host before using the telephone.
  • If students wish to make collect calls, they must ask their host for assistance.
  • Rennert Bilingual will not be responsible for phone bills left by students. Any remaining bills will be the responsibility of the agent.
Notes
  • May be more suitable for mature, independent travelers.
  • May not be suitable for very young students, smokers who insist upon smoking within the home and/or people with restricted diet.

Outside Manhattan. Double rooms only available for 2 students coming together.

  • Half Board - Students may be expected to prepare their own meals, in which case the food will be provided by the host.
  • Students may have access to the kitchen with the permission of the host.
Family type
  • Single working professionals and traditional families.
Room types
  • Students stay in single rooms.
  • Double rooms are limited and are only available for 2 students arriving together.
Bathroom
  • Bathroom facilities are usually shared with the host family.
