Your First Day at Rennert
Welcome to Rennert New York. We want you to feel at home at Rennert from the moment you arrive. Your first day will be busy. You will be meeting Rennert's staff and your classmates from all over the world. We will test you so we can place you at the correct English level. You will also get lots of information about how to explore and enjoy New York City. We are happy to make your acquaintance!

Rennert New York Staff
Language Placement Test
On your first day at school, you will take a language placement test starting at 8 a.m. The placement test has three sections: grammar, vocabulary and oral proficiency. Based on these results, Rennert will place you in the best class for your level. At the end of the testing session, you will meet with the Rennert academic and admissions staff and receive a detailed orientation session where you will learn about:
- Your individual program
- Important visa information for students with I-20s
- Information to help you get around New York City
- How to sign up for Rennert's free classes and teacher-led student activities after class
After orientation, you will receive a timetable with details of your class, level, teacher and classroom. You will also be given your first set of textbooks, as long as your full tuition payment has been made. Rennert staff and teachers are always happy to answer any questions you have before you go to your first class. Students may be placed in either a morning or an afternoon class. Students with morning classes will begin class on Tuesday morning. Students with afternoon classes may begin class on Monday afternoon. Don't worry if you feel that your class level is not correct for you! Our academic director is available all day Monday through Friday to help you with any questions about classes, teachers, levels or course materials. Also, our friendly admissions coordinators set aside office hours to help with your questions.
Books and Materials
Rennert offers 10 Levels of General English classes, ranging from beginner to advanced. Each level has a dedicated course book. As noted previously, you will receive your first set of books at orientation. When you change a level, you will be required to buy a new textbook.
Rennert Mixer - Meet and Greet Your Fellow Rennert Students!
Each Monday evening, new students are invited to attend a Rennert mixer, where you will be able to meet and get to know other Rennert students and staff. This is a great opportunity for you to practice your English and meet new people! The Rennert Mixer is held at a local pub. The minimum age in New York for ordering alcoholic beverages is 21 but you can buy soft drinks and eat free food. Welcome again!
